Dance

About IASAS Dance

Each school presents an original 16-20 minute dance. Dancers choreograph movement, select music, design costumes, a set and lighting based on a theme or intention. The intent or theme of their dance may be conceptual, emotional, visual, structural or combinations of all these areas. A major goal of each dance group is to establish a connection with the audience such that, whatever they dance, the audience will recognize the quality of their work.

Dancers engage in a critique session following the performances which are designed to solicit feedback and reaction both to the performance as well as the overall intent. These critiques also provide the dancers with opportunities to discuss their creative processes and the development of the dances. Dance is a non-competitive event. Throughout Cultural Convention, dancers also engage in a number of workshops with guest artists. These workshops explore and develop dance technique, composition and where possible, world dance cultures.
